  1. Hello,
We meet at the Mixology Summit in Colorado. Check out my blog when you get a chance.

  2. Hey Friend. Good to chill this last weekend. So, I need some advice for Scotch. I am going to this tasting and need to bring a bottle of the isles. However, I HATE PEATY SCOTCH. What bottle can I bring that is peaty but tasty. Or do I just have to suck it up. I hope that you are well and the trip back was great. Talk to you soon.

    • Hey Ryan! So good to hang with you guys as well. That was seriously some all-star caliber partying. Can’t wait to do it all over again.

About the Scotch. I would recommend something from the Speyside region of the Highlands. Highlands Scotch tends to be the least “peaty” of the lot and many Speysides in particular have been aged in used Sherry casks. The combination of less peat and Sherry wood aging make for some delicious and approachable whisky. Good examples of this are Macallan (the 12 is fine whisky, the 18 might be one of the best), The Balvenie (really nice and straight forward, easy peat, low smoke), and my personal favorite from this region, Glenfarclas. Their 12 year old sees a lot of Sherry influence and the whisky has a lot of character without being a peat bully. There are almost floral notes including heather and violets. Overall I feel it is one of the most well balanced and best valued Speysides for the money. I hope this helps at least get the train out of the station. Have fun at the tasting! Let me know how it works out.
